The Trip Begins

With little time left in the states, I am getting my last minute details ready for China. I am leaving on Monday May 1st for Beijing, and sometime within the next week I will make my way to Changsha, Hunan province, where I will begin a postgraduate training the Traditional Chinese Medicine hospital.

Changsha is the capital of Hunan, a city which has been inhabited for at least 3000 years. Zhang Zhong Jing, the author of Shang Han lun, was the governor here almost 2000 years ago. Hunan still has a reputation for being a traditional province, and the TCM doctors still largely rely on classical theories and texts. This is probably more true throughout China than many like to believe. I am excited to find out.
